Welcome to Legends of the Haunted Woods, an ​eerie and thrilling experience set on one of the ​oldest historic homesteads in Hampton, NH. ​Venture through the dark, mysterious woods ​and encounter the haunted tales and restless ​spirits that have lingered for centuries. Join us ​for a spine-chilling walk and discover the ​secrets of Hampton's haunted past.

How long is it?

Our walk takes you through the woods behind The James House. It is around a half mile trail walk.

Is it all outdoors?

Yes. This is rain or shine. Wear the right clothes and pack for fun. It is somewhat stroller friendly, but be prepared to walk over rocks, roots, and rough terrain.

How much does this cost?

Each day has a different price. You can look here for ticket info.

Can I bring a pet?

While we would like to say yes, we prefer the pups stay home. There will be lighting, wires, fog, people dressed in costume. All things that can stress animals.

Where is it?

Located at the Historic James House in Hampton NH. We are on 186 Towle Farm Rd. Right up the street from Smuttynose Brewery.

Is the appropriate for small children?

Our day time haunt would be perfectly fine depending on your individual child’s need. We do not have any gore, or typical horror theme situations. We want the ​property (and it’s history) be the real frightening showcase. If you have brave ones, I would say the Friday night is perfect for 8 and about.

This is our third year of haunted ​walks at the Historic James House ​in Hampton NH.

We are Halloween and history ​lovers at heart. So it only made ​sense to incorporate both into this ​fundraiser.

What started as a small community ​fundraiser to have fun, has now ​turned into a two week event.

Each year we get bigger and better.

The James House, built in 1723 for Benjamin ​James in Hampton, NH, is a rare "first ​period" colonial. It’s one of the earliest ​surviving examples of a two-room deep, ​center-chimney colonial in the state, with ​all original framing intact. Without modern ​amenities like heat or electricity, this ​historical site offers a unique glimpse into ​18th-century life. Listed on the National ​Register of Historic Places, the James House ​is dedicated to preserving its architectural ​and historic significance. Visiting supports ​restoration efforts, and more history is ​available on their website: James House ​Museum.
